<p>Are you a first-time Mac user? Then you undoubtedly know that you could always activate a slow motion effect under macOS, even in OS X in the early days. </p>

<p>For example, this allows you to start an application slowly or open the launchpad super slow. Since macOS Sequoia, Apple has disabled this effect, but with a terminal command you can turn it back on.</p>

<span id="more-1518"></span>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Re-enable slow motion effects for macOS</h2>

<p>Copy and paste the following command into Terminal and press ENTER to execute the command.</p>

<pre class="wp-block-preformatted">defaults write com.apple.dock slow-motion-allowed -bool YES;killall Dock</pre>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How to use</h2>

<p>Once you have used the command and the effect is activated, you can open apps and other components on the screen in slow motion. To do this, hold down the <strong>SHIFT key</strong> and click on an app or something similar.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img data-recalc-dims="1" fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="585" height="329" src="https://i0.wp.com/www.defaults-write.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/launchpad.jpeg?resize=585%2C329&#038;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-1520" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/www.defaults-write.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/launchpad-scaled.jpeg?resize=585%2C329&amp;ssl=1 585w, https://i0.wp.com/www.defaults-write.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/launchpad-scaled.jpeg?resize=768%2C432&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/www.defaults-write.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/launchpad-scaled.jpeg?resize=1536%2C864&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https://i0.wp.com/www.defaults-write.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/launchpad-scaled.jpeg?resize=2048%2C1152&amp;ssl=1 2048w, https://i0.wp.com/www.defaults-write.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/launchpad-scaled.jpeg?w=1650&amp;ssl=1 1650w, https://i0.wp.com/www.defaults-write.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/launchpad-scaled.jpeg?w=2475&amp;ssl=1 2475w" sizes="(max-width: 585px) 100vw, 585px" /></figure></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Revert to the default setting</h2>

<p>Revert to the default setting and turn off the slow motion effect with the following command:</p>

<pre class="wp-block-preformatted">defaults write com.apple.dock slow-motion-allowed -bool NO;killall Dock</pre>
